The Life Nav Program
Our App
"3.9 Million Australians are living with mental illness"
The Life Nav App is specifically designed to help people navigate situations that are mentally challenging. Just as people are guided through situations that are known to be physically challenging, the Life Nav App helps people through situations that are known to be mentally challenging.
Examples of Uses
Who it helps
The Life Nav App supports people involved in challenging situations in three ways:
- Helping the organisers (team managers, university leaders, employers) to provide a meaningful and unintrusive support mechanism for people going through challenging situations
- Helping those participating in challenging situations (sportspeople, students, apprentices) with trusted and confidential insights into their mental health
- Helping family and friends of those participating in challenging situations to provide meaningful support
"95% of sports people before, during and after selection trails are mentally challenged"
Why it Works
Life Nav is used to support people through mental challenges, whether they are seen to be at risk or not. This is because it is difficult to predict how a mentally challenging situation will impact on a person. Just as individuals navigate the physical world using a combination of map and compass cross-referenced with landmarks, the Life Nav App uses a combination of proven mental health measures and checkpoints cross-referenced with trusted others. The first step in losing your way physically or mentally is not knowing where you are or thinking you are somewhere you are not. Life Nav helps to prevent and resolve this. For those that may have already drifted from where they would like to be mentally, the Life Nav App helps them to find their way back.
The Life Nav App addresses some common issues with mental health during challenging times head on:
Research has shown that a message or conversation from a trusted other can save a life. Everyone is qualified to be a good mate.
