The Participant Experience

What does being a Participant mean?

The Life Nav App is specifically designed to help people navigate situations that are known to be mentally challenging. For example; students studying away from home or someone going through a sporting pathway. Life Nav facilitates help through people that you trust. Our app implements preventative measures and is designed to provide support alongside organizations that you are part of. If you do not find the answer to your question in the guide below please get in touch with us.

How does the Life Nav App work?

The Life Nav App collects data from Participants and their Trusted Others in the form of well-being surveys or check-ins; sent out as 8 check points over the course of a 100 day period. These surveys help reflect on where your mental health is when you begin the program, where your journey is going, and how the organization and those around you, can help you navigate your journey better. Going through that challenging time with you.

FAQs

Q. Why should I become a Particpant?
3.9 million Australians are living with mental illness. Every single person that participates in the Life Nav program gives us more insight into how we can prevent mental illness from occurring. So even if you are not experiencing the same mental challenges as others in your program, you are still providing baseline data that we can learn from to help support others.
Q. How do you use my data?
As a Life Nav Participant you will be a part of a group program. We use your data collected from the check-ins and we look at it as part of the collective. The data helps us to track the groups' journey through that particular mental health challenge; whether you are coping or not and possible causes for dips in mental health. We can also use data-driven solutions to help guide Participants through these challenges.
Q. Who should I pick as my trusted others?
Choose people that you trust. They can be family, friends, teammates. or mentors. Ideally people that know and respect you, that can also be contacted during the 100 days.
Q. What if they say ‘no’?
This is a common fear of participants, but it rarely happens. When it does, it is usually because the other person is in a situation where they are unlikely to be able to participate fully during the nominated time period. For example they might be uncontactable for a period of time or they are going through a busy period in their own life. So, if this does happen, don’t worry, just pick someone else or contact your program Organiser for assistance.
Q. Is my data safe?
We use data that is anonymised. Life Nav takes Data Privacy very seriously; so we look at the data as part of a collective in order to keep your privacy intact.
Q. Why does it go for 100 days?
100 days is an established transition timeframe that people are familiar with.
Q. What is a Trusted Other?
Your Trusted Others will be your primary support mechanism for going through situations that are mentally challenging. As a Life Nav Participant we ask you to select up to three trusted others that will be going through this process with you to make sure that they're checking in on you, they're seeing how you're going, and that we can also make sure that you have the support that's right there. part of this is the fact that
You don't need to be, you know, have a a professional qualification to provide support. You know, everyone is qualified to be a good mate, a good friend. and so a lot of that is just checking in to see how you're going. So if there are issues that do show up, that is not something that we're asking your trusted others to do. We are just asking them to be there for you and to go through it with you, to keep tabs on you to make sure that you're not going through it alone.
Q. What if I don’t have three trusted others?
Choose as many people as you can, Life Nav will still work, however you will have less data to review as we can only share the responses from trusted others when we are able to de-identify it. Your program Organiser will also be made aware that you have less support available to you and may make other arrangements to help support you outside of Life Nav.
